Our shop features a 30-inch Gammill Optimum with Statler Stitcher—the computer-assisted sewing system. We offer a rental service that affords our customers the opportunity to experience long-arm quilting at an affordable rate. We've created a Long-arm Certification program that helps us promote safe use of our machine. We require that anyone who rents from us is either supervised or has shown us that they are qualified to use the long-arm without constant supervision.

Long-arm Certification

The Quilter's Way Long-arm Certification program includes a hands-on Beginner’s Class followed by three hours of private instruction and up to 20 supervised hours on the long-arm. Once you complete the Beginner's Class, you will work on your own projects for all rental time. If you have been through a beginner’s program at another studio, you may complete our Refresher Course, where we will assess your skill level (up to Certified) and introduce our policies to you. Following the Beginner's Class, you will be required to complete one 3-hour block of personal instruction (at a reduced rate of $30/hour) and up to 20 supervised rental hours (at $20/hour) to complete your certification.

Long-arm Courses

At the present time, we offer three group classes on the long-arm:

  • Beginner's Class ($125 per person)
Our Beginner's Class is a three-hour, hands-on class with up-to four students. During this class, you will be shown and practice all the techniques you’ll need to quilt your own quilts. You will work on a sample quilt provided by Quilter’s Way for the class. By the end of the class, you will be able to quilt an overall design using the Statler Stitcher or hand-guided techniques.
  • Refresher Course ($50 per person)
The Refresher Course is an assessment of your skill level on the Gammill long-arm machine. You will be asked to show us how to load a quilt, thread the machine, and perform basic quilting. During this course, we will also review Quilter’s Way’s rental policies with you. If we determine that you already work at our Certified level, we will certify you, and you will be able to rent the long-arm without further instruction. If we determine that your skill level is less than what is required for certification, you will either be asked to take the Beginner’s Class or be supervised on the long-arm until you have reached our Certified level.
  • Statler-Stitcher Advanced ($125 per person)
As you gain proficiency on your edge-to-edge work, you may want to explore more customized work on the Statler Stitcher. This three-hour class will expand on what you learned in the Beginner’s class and teach you more advance ways of working with the Statler Stitcher.

Long-arm Rental Rates

Long-arm rentals must be pre-booked in blocks of three hours. Due to the demand for long-arm rentals, we require that you pay for your rental block in advance. The basic 3-hour block rental fee is non-refundable.

  • Private instruction - $40 per hour (2-hour minimum)
  • Supervised rental - $20 per hour (3-hour minimum)
  • Certified rental - $15 per hour (3-hour minimum)

Thread Charge

To insure proper operation of our machine, we require you to use thread that works successfully on our long-arm. We have a variety of Fil-Tec, Superior and Auri-fil threads available for use. You may supply your own thread if you obtain permission prior to your rental session.  If you use thread from our stock, we will assess a thread charge of $2.50 per bobbin.
