Building Your Own BDSM Dungeon

Sharing is caring!

Not everyone is born in a castle. Unfortunately, that means that sex dungeons aren’t as easy to find. But if you are into kinky things and you always wanted to have one in your home, here is a couple of tips for a DIY sex dungeon. The process might be simpler than you think.

What Is a BDSM Dungeon

If you ever wanted to have a BDSM dungeon, now is the time to make your dream come true. But before we go into all the details of how and why you should do it, we should discuss what it is. BDSM dungeon is an indoor space that’s designed specifically for BDSM scenes and other similar activities.

The reason why people call it is for the lack of windows since the last thing you’ll need is someone creeping on you during your sexy time. When it comes to the BDSM furniture or the interior in general, it depends on the owner’s taste. And what type of scene they love doing, of course.

Most commonly, there will be toys on the shelves. But, it’s not rare to see shackles or chains as well. The dungeon doesn’t need to be in the castle or a basement, and you can make one in your bedroom if that’s what you’d enjoy. There are no limitations except what you are willing to do.

Think About Space

One of the first things you need to worry about is space if you are looking to build your own dungeon. Think about what you plan on doing there and what kind of equipment you’ll need. Of course, not many people are able to start building from scratch. So, you’ll probably need to choose one of the existing rooms you can transform into the dungeon.

Think about how visible it is and whether you will have enough privacy in there. The most common choices are attics, basements, garages, etc. Naturally, you can build a dungeon out of anything that has four walls in it. Just be sure that isolation is good enough to avoid noise complaints.

Another important thing to consider is ventilation. Air conditioners will do an excellent job making everyone feel comfortable and keeping the temperature at reasonable levels even during the summer.

Color and Atmosphere

Assuming that you found a perfect spot for the dungeon and covered all the important technical bits, the next step on the list would be choosing the right colors. Now, even though we said “right colors” there are no rules. You can pick whatever you want. It’s your BDSM room, after all.

The most common choices are red and black, and it is something that works incredibly well with this type of space. Another popular option is to go for a fake stone and brick, which is similar to wine cellars or actual dungeons.

If you are having doubts, the safest option is to go for one main color and then pick two accent ones. There are no reasons for the dungeon to be dark or menacing unless you are looking to achieve that effect.

What’s Your Budget

Since the majority of people will work on a budget, they will need to plan the space carefully and choose the type of toys they want to use, more specifically, pieces of furniture. Probably the best idea would be to pick the favorite toy and build the entire space around it.

This doesn’t have to be anything wild or expensive. You can choose St. Andrew’s Cross, frame bed, throne, spanking bench, sex swing, fucking machine, etc. The rest of the toys would serve as decorations and would be placed around the room. Naturally, for those with a limited budget, it’s always better to pick a smaller room that can easily be filled than to have a lot of unused space.

For those with an unlimited budget, you can buy whatever you like. However, it is still a good option to have a centerpiece and to put the rest of the sex toys around it.

Fill It Up With Toys

The rest of the space should be filled with toys. Once again, it is up to you to decide what kind of sex toys you want to use and have in your dungeon. Now, one of the best things about sex toys is that they can be pretty inexpensive. You can go safe and buy a few dildos, ropes, floggers, and so on.

One of the things you need to keep in mind is your budget. Since you’ll need a lot of different things in your dungeon, it is easy to get carried away and buy tons of cheap toys and items that will add to the overall price.

To simplify everything, create a list of priorities and start from the top. A bondage room might be a great idea for some. For others, it’s not the top priority. Just remember that you can always buy more later. There is no need for you to spend money on everything at once.

Safety Tips

Safety is always an important aspect, and anything related to BDSM needs to be even more secure. If you are building the dungeon by yourself, always make sure that things are well made. It is better for something to be safe than pretty, especially when it comes to dungeon furniture. The last thing you’ll need is for it to fall apart during the scene and hurt someone.

As for the rest of the room, think of cleaning before you need to do it. Since things will happen during the scene, everything should be easily cleaned and sanitized. For those planning to use candles and wax for temperature play, ensure that there are no flammable objects nearby, and always keep an extinguisher close.

Finally, just think about safety and health in general. Any problem that occurs along the way should be fixed, and the only way to enjoy yourself is if there are no potential risks to your (or your partner’s) health and safety.
