FASHION FORWARD - TEENS ON THE RUNWAY
OCTOBER 20th
DeCordova Museum and the Sewing Café at Quilter’s Way in West Concord are hosting a special event this fall – a runway show for teens: Fashion Forward – Teens on the Runway. The gala event will take place on October 20, 2008 from 6-9 pm in the Dewey Gallery at the DeCordova Museum.

Each participant must design and show an original piece of clothing in one of three categories:
  • Fast Forward – present a vision of a futuristic look
  • Pause for Effect – design an outfit that would be trendy today
  • Classic Replay – showcase a remake of a vintage design
Either a single garment or entire outfit will qualify but the work must be that of the participant. We’ll expect each participant to plan and construct the garment elements featured in the show. The use of commercial patterns is allowed as long as the participant has added unique design details. Participants who want assistance or instruction in fashion design or sewing techniques can take advantage of the fashion design classes at DeCordova Museum or the sewing clinics offered at the Sewing Café at Quilter’s Way. If a participant would prefer not to take part in the runway component of the show, a friend is permitted to model in the participant’s place.

DeCordova Museum and the Sewing Café at Quilter’s Way are delighted to be partnering for this unique event. We expect it to be a very special night. The event will be open to the public and professionally photographed. In addition, we hope to have professional makeup and hair stylists prepare the models for the runway. Prizes will be awarded to the top designers in each category.

Space will be limited. Download and complete the registration form and return it to us by September 1, 2008 to reserve your spot.

FIBER ARTS STUDIO COMING IN SEPTEMBER
Karen Pulaski is trying something new this fall. Every third Saturday from 10am-3pm, join Karen to explore a wide variety of techniques formerly used mostly by contemporary quilt artists. Learn how any one of these techniques can be used to spice up the projects you are already working on.

Although designed primarily as an open workshop, Karen will feature a new technique each month with a demonstration and project that you can choose to work on. Come play with wash-away stabilizers, beading, fabric manipulation, paint sticks, thread painting and textured machine embroidery.

NEW! SEWING CAFE AT QUILTER'S WAY
The Sewing Cafe is a unique concept, a sewing studio that encourages experienced and beginning sewers alike to socialize and sew. These days, too many of us yearn for a way to express our creative side but we lack the uninterrupted time and space needed to bring the dream to life.
